Green Gram is Legume crop. Apart from India it is cultivated in China, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia and Bangladesh. Green crop gets ready for harvesting in 65 to 70 days, the reason its usually take for inter cropping. In this article we will quickly focus on five important aspects of “ Green Gram Cultivation – Post Sowing Management”.
Inter cultivation : After 25 to 30 days of sowing do ‘weeding’. Keep the crop weed free for first 25 to 30 days. Complete thinning within 10 days of sowing.
Various pest and insect attacks on Green Gram :
Mosaic : Its one kind of microscopic virus. Due to this the gets yellow and green patches, which reduces the size of leaf. Ultimately it causes low production.
Powdery Mildew : This pest is usually seen in Maharashtra. This fungus attacks on leaf, flowers and on beans as well. Presence of this pest in earlier stage can definitely reduce the production.
Control : Most importantly choose the disease resistant varieties. If not use good quality fungicides. A first dose of spraying as soon as the symptoms is seen. Use Bavistin/Carbondenzim Systemic fungicide 250 grams for 500 liter of water and do spraying. This can help in controlling Powdery Mildew. Give second dose within 8 to 10 days if required.
Crop Protection : In planting stage there can be aphids, jassids and various caterpillar, beetles and white fly attack. To control this use liquid Monochrotophos 36% liquid 500 m.l in 500 liter of water for spraying 1 hectare land.
Harvesting, Threshing & Storing : Do harvesting of matured beans in gap of 8 to 10 days. Once the beans gets dry do threshing. Dry the seeds in natural heat. Do coating of B.H.C 5% powder to bag before filling the seeds. Store it in dry place.
